Tatu City has unveiled the Tatu Training Academy dedicated to provide classroom learning and hands-on practical training to qualify the local community for work in the buoyant construction activities at Tatu city and other construction industries.

“The Tatu City Training Academy was founded in response to the wishes of local residents to acquire specialist skills in the construction industry and find employment near their homes. Tatu City is dedicated to its host communities and pleased to work with the Kiambu County government to empower youth and create jobs.” Nick Langford Kenya Country Head for Rendeavour.

The launch is in line with Tatu City’s set a standard, which requires all hired contractors working at the project to come from the local community. Currently around 2,000 workers are currently on-site, employed by Tatu City and contractors building schools, apartments, warehousing and factories.

Since the beginning of this year, 3 classes have already been trained and qualified in skills such as masonry, plaster work and tiling. Further programs are planned to train electricians, plumbers and painters. The 6 week course will be facilitated by ArcSkills a professional development agency in Kenya. In addition graduates will be awarded with a certificate validated by the National Construction Authority, there after Tatu City will assists them secure construction jobs with the contractors on site.

The academy is expected to train hundreds of people, with tens of thousands of employment opportunities being provided at the 5,000-acre Tatu City Special Economic Zone.
